Sanda, or Chinese Kickboxing, is a fighting system developed by the Chinese military which combines traditional martial arts with modern fighting techniques. Incorporating both striking and stand-up grappling, Sanda is a dynamic full contact martial art and highly effective self defence system.
“The art of Sanda is to stay on your feet”
The striking elements of Sanda can be considered similar to modern kickboxing, incorporating boxing, kicking, kick-catches and sweeps. All strikes in Sanda are considered for their power, speed and general combat efficiency. Striking combinations are encouraged and are often used to open opportunities for takedowns.
What makes Sanda unique is the inclusion of stand up wrestling. During a Sanda fight or match, opponents can execute single and double leg takedowns, hip throws, reaps and trips. The three-second grappling time encourages quick takedowns and a strong grappling defence. Wrestling in Sanda is based on Shuai Jiao, a traditional Chinese grappling art.
K1 Kickboxing
K1 is a Kickboxing rule-set which allows boxing, kicks, sweeps and a short clinch in which knee strikes can be used. K-1 combines striking from Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Karate and Kung Fu and is a highly effective striking system.
